alright, joe, here's another alternative.....no control whatsoever, but
super cheap!!

1 oscillator @  59.98 Hz (V-sync)  (duty cycle ? )
1 pulse generator@  17KHz  (H-sync) ( synced to first signal ) (pulse len?)
1 3 MHz sine oscillator, 100% modulated by incoming audio signal!

Mix and enjoy.

*possibly* the common NEC555 could oscillate at 1MHz, with its modulation
input connected to audio.  This would produce (even) less quality results.
